Congratulations to the U13 footballers today who had a great win today, despite being short a few key players.

Askeaton Ballysteen Kilcornan were the opposition this morning in Banouge at 11.00am.

We started on the back foot and ABK had an early first point and looked like a very composed side with all their boys being on the age. Our captain Shane o Donoghue hadn't read their script however and won an early free with one of his trademark long runs. James McCarthy tapped the free over and our lads began to settle into the game.

A goal from Peadair Kiernan allowed us to go into half time with a 4 point lead.

Unfortunately ABK showed their talents early in the second half and scored a quick 1.02 which put us behind again. The boys battled really hard in this period and we traded point for point for a while. With three minutes to go after great work from Dylan Kiely, Shane o Donoghue got onto a ball in the box to finish to the net which put us 2 points up.

ABK immediately went on the attack and defeat seemed inevitable when they were awarded a last minute penalty. Jake Costelloe made it difficult in goals for the taker and the ball went over the bar.

Shortly after the ref blew the final whistle to cheers from the DAB crowd.

Too many of the lads played really well to mention them all on what was a great team performance from a very young side.

Team: Jake Costelloe, Dylan Kiely. Matthew Furlong, Luke o Leary, Conor Hayes, Liam Kelleher, James McCarthy, Shane o Donoghue, Liam Cusack, Peadair Kiernan, Davy Sheehan, Cathal Moynihan, Paudi Herlihy. Sub: Eddie Furlong who played the second half.

We have a county shield final to look forward to now in probably 2 weeks time.

Final score. 2.08 to 2.07. Thanks to ABK for a very sporting game
